DJ Shadow remains beyond classification with his latest mammoth album The Outsider and this heart wrenching new single was a the surprise highlight of a very varied package. Sounding almost impenetrably like the rare deep funk and soul of the 60s and 70s that is so close to Shadows heart This Time is purely and simply a very good song featuring widescreen rousing string arrangements as played by The Heliocentrics and a mystery accapella lifted from Shadows mammoth record archive. The dubbed out and pitched down B side mix loses much of the vocal and follows a more introspective path the result being as close Shadow purists will get to Entroducing.
