At long last, the much anticipated debut album from super-talented Philly vocalist Jazmine Sullivan drops! She started out in the breeding ground for neo-soul in Philly, the Black lIly, and was taken under the wing of Missy Elliot. Her debut single dropped in 2004 (I was never sure if it was an official release or not), she picked up heat from Gilles Peterson, then... nothing! Until the carnival anthem Need U Bad dropped earlier this year. Now this debut album shows the wait has been worth it, its a symphonic modern soul set, forward thinking and bags of crossover potential, without having to go down th Pop Idol route. Production comes from Missy, Salaam Remi and Jack Splash amongst others. One of the debuts of the year!
