Dr. Isiah Ross was a true lone maverick amongst blues-men, infamously walking away from a contract with Sun Records because he thought they were hiding royalties, then firing his band because he thought he could play everything just as well on his own, then setting up his own label, releasing his own record and proving he was right all along. In the early 60s he cut a few singles on the fantastic Detroit indie Fortune, of which this is probably the pick. Those who are fans of Dr. Ross' stripped back, uncompromising, hard-rocking country blues style are fans all the way.
